WAWA RESIDENTS

These four pictures shows a number of immigrants taking English lessons at the Sir James Dunn Public School. The person on the left is Mr Stetler, the school principal. The lady is Mrs. Hoppner, and the fourth fellow from the right is Gerhard (Jerry) Wunschmann, who provided this picture.

This is a photograph of Joe and Mildred Thomas, that was taken of them at Parkhill Mines. The Thomas' moved to Wawa and lived on the corner of Ganley and First Avenue.

This is Mel Philips' wife, Marie, with their two boys, Steen and the baby, Bryan.

These three ladies worked in White's Clothing Store. The lady on the right is Helen Campbell,the lady in the middle is Margaret Kaspersetz and lady on the left is Alberta McDonald.

This is Gerhard (Jerry) Wunschmann and store clerk Margaret Kaspersetz.

This picture was provided by Gerhard Wuncshmann and is of a party hosted by Harry and Helen Dann and was taken at the Dann's house. He is in the front row. The lady, fourth from the left in the back row is Gerhard's wife Eva.

This is a picture of three ladies of Wawa. The one on the left is Marg Ste. Marie. Sandra (Whitney) Dockeray contacted me and said that the tall lady on the right was her mother, Chris Whitney and the lady in the middle is her aunt, Ruth Richards. Sandra said that she was the little girl in the picture. On the right of the picture, is the Union Hall before it was extended.

The fellow on the left is Bill McPhee with Gerry Ste. Marie. Both drove bus for the AOP.

This picture was provided by John Berry. This calf moose was orphaned and was taken to the Lands and Forest Station on Wawa Lake. The girl petting the calf is Kathleen Watson and the girl behind her is Sylvia Brown. The boy leaning by the garage door is Wayne Watson. The boy in the hat is Robbie Oliver and the one with his hands in his pockets is thought to be Rollie Tremblay. Margaret Gladys (nee Watson) emailed me to say that Wayne Watson was her father and that the lady and gentleman picture behind Sylvia and Kathleen were her grandparents, Margaret and John Watson.

Rhonda (Johnston) Noll emailed me and told me that the fellow holding the milk bowel was her dad, Ronald Johnston. She said the calf was named Wambitic, Objibway for Wood Tic. The calf came from Magpie and ended up in the Hyde Park Zoo in Toronto.

The lady on the right is Eva Wunschmann and the lady on the left was Mrs. Marcovic's mother, Mrs Bubic (?)

This is a picture of Nick and Mary Gladish was taken Christmas of 1954 or 1955 by my dad. My parents rented an old white house on Gold Street from Nick and Mary when they first moved to Wawa in 1946.

This couple is Eva and Gerhard Wunschmann. They were married in Wawa on October 31, 1955. Gerhard (Jerry) moved to Wawa in August 1952 and worked for the Algoma Central Railway as an operator until April 1955, when he started working for Algoma Ore in the Lab. In July 1957, Eva and Gerhard returned to Germany where they live today. Gerhard provided a lot of the pictures of the ACR and the mine and sinter plant.
