This picture show the upper Silver Falls on the Magpie River from the bridge on the Old Government Dock road, just outside Michipicoten Mission.
This picture show the lower Silver Falls on the Magpie River below the bridge on the old Government Dock road.
This is a picture of part of the beach, that was initially started by the Lions Club of Wawa. When this picture was taken in 1963, the Township had assumed responsibility for the beach. I can remember that the water was always cold for swimming!
This photo was taken in 1965 and shows all the docks for the seaplane bases. The dock in the foreground belonged to Algoma Ore, the next to AirDale Air Service and the far one to the Department of Lands and Forest.(MNR)

Taken August 2001, the abandoned Surluga Gold mining complex was located on the Surluga Road. In the 1930's, this area was known as the Parkhill Gold mining area and the road was previously called the Parkhill road.
The following two pictures were taken in 1965. The location is an old abandoned mine, located on the north side of Wawa Lake. I suspect that it was developed during the gold rush days of Wawa, but all we ever found was a lot of Galena. This picture shows (l. to r.) Ahti Koski, Martin Rodger and Mike King looking over the ruins.
This picture shows what was left of the boiler.
This picture was taken in 1956 and shows Ken Honstein standing in front of the War Cenotaph. Originally, it was located in front of the Lions Beach. It was later moved to Queens Park on Magpie Road.
This building was occupied by the Funk Family. It's history is very vague but has been in Michipicoten Mission for quite some time.
This Canadian Helicopters helicopter is parked on the Ontario Lands and Forests seaplane dock. In the background is the Lands and Forest office building and maintenance areas. The office building has been abandoned and the maintenance building has be demolished to make way for a driveway to the rear entrance of the new Lady Dunn Hospital.
This unusual looking seaplane is parked at the AOP dock.
This "Norseman" seaplane was reported as belonging to Keith Messenger of Sault Airways but this has not been confirmed.
Sault Airways was Keith Messenger. He provided a relatively regular air service between Wawa and Sault Ste Marie. When I was seven years old, I flew to the Sault on one of his Norseman's.
Sault Airways wasn't without incident. This Sault Star article provided by Dennis Garrood documents one such incident. (note: Permission to display this article was granted by The Sault Star)
This is the Lake City Restaurant undergoing renovations. Don Dube recognized his Dad's 1956 Ford here and thinks that this picture may have been taken in 1958 and the wedding party was for Ann and Ed Konschider.
This picture of Gerry St. Marie was taken about 1953, on the old Government Dock at Lake Superior. At that time, the dock was still relatively intact.
This picture, taken August 2001, shows the location of the old dock, that no longer exists.
This is a photo of the Hudson Bay Company Post at Michipicoten Mission. The Post was tore down by the Great Lakes Power Company and not preserved as a Historical Site. In the background, is the village of Michipicoten Mission.
