Like any community in Northern Ontario, hockey was a favourite of many. In Wawa, an open air rink, on the southwest corner of Mackey Street and McKinley, provided the facilities to play in the local leagues.

The next two photos show one of the houses that was in Sinterville being moved into Wawa proper. Most of the houses were located on Hillcrest and Beck Avenues.

I can not remember the exact time that this event occurred but I believe it was the fall of 1953. This USAF helicopter ran low on fuel. After nearly hitting the school, it had to make an emergency landing in the Sir James Dunn Public School field. The heliocopter was there for several hours while the fuel was obtained. Once it was refuelled, it took off and made several passes over the town and headed south.

Every year, Wawa has Remembrance Ceremonies at the Cenotaph that was located at the Lions Beach to remember the fallen in the Two World Wars. This ceremony was particularily important because the Korean War was in progress.
