ALGOMA CENTRAL RAILWAY
For many years, the ACR was the only regular means of transportation in and out of Wawa. It transported all the goods that Wawa needed. Its major customer was the Algoma Ore. Algoma Ore shipped iron ore by train to the Sinter Plant from its open pit operations and sinter to Michipicoten Harbour and to Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie. The line from Hawk Junction to Michipicoten Harbour was abandoned after the shutdown of Algoma Ore in 1998 and the rails were removed in 2000. There are people in some of the photographs.
